Tesco to hit

back at Aldi

in price war

Tesco is promising to
match hundreds of Aldi
prices from today – after
the smaller grocer took a
slice of its sales.
Aldi’s successful shop-
ping basket campaign
showed families what they
could save by shopping at
its stores instead.
sales at Tesco dipped
0.8% in the past 12 weeks,
while Aldi had a 5.7%
increase, found Kantar.
But now the bigger
chain is matching some
fruit, veg, meat and dairy.
Alessandra Bellini, chief
customer officer, said:
“This will help time-poor
and budget-savvy
customers get Tesco
products at Aldi prices.”
This week Tesco had to
reissue 600,000 clubcards
after an online scam. It
said: “No customer finan-
cial data was accessed.”

Lord ‘wanted

extras after

his massage’

A MA sseUse told a court
a blind peer groped her
buttocks and asked for
“extra” services while she
was giving him treatment.
During the treatment on
March 7 last year, Lord
Holmes of Richmond, 48,
is alleged to have asked the
woman whether she “did
extras” while pointing at
his groin, grabbed her by
the bottom and asked to
touch her breasts.
she told southwark
crown court: “I said this
was inappropriate and this
made me uncomfortable
and he was shushing me.”
The peer denies sexual
assault or asking for sexual
services and said he only
lightly touched her.
Lord Holmes, who lives
in Richmond, surrey, won
15 Paralympic gold medals
in swimming events.
The trial continues.

William praises UK-Ireland bond

It was a

WILLIAM on visiting the
garden of remembrance

THE Duke of Cambridge has urged
the UK and Ireland to focus on how
far their relationship has come and
not be bound by wrongs of the past.
s peaking on the second day of his
visit to the Republic with wife Kate,
Prince William referenced the Queen’s
state visit of 2011, which set the seal on
the Northern Irish peace process.
He said: “Growing up, I remember
seeing the Troubles, which affected so
many across the UK and Ireland.
“This explains why one of the truly
profound moments for catherine and
I took place yesterday when we laid a
wreath at the Garden
of Remembrance. It
was a reminder of the
complexity of our
shared history, and as
my grandmother said
during her visit in
2011, ‘our islands
have experienced
more than their fair
share of heartache
and turbulence’.
“But it was also a
reminder of how far we have come. It
is right that we remember those who
suffered. And whilst many wrongs have
been done, it is important we are not
bound by these.”
The Foreign office asked William
and Kate to visit Ireland because Lord
Mountbatten’s 1979 assassination by
the IRA makes the Royal Family invalu-
able ambassadors for reconciliation.
And speaking at a reception held by
Deputy Prime Minister simon coveney
in Dublin’s Museum of Literature
yesterday, William also insisted Brexit
will not upset things. He said: “The
changing relationship between the UK
