Trench dressing
If you’re looking for a new
investment buy, then this could be it.
Seen at Burberry and JW Anderson,
deconstructed trench coats were a
key look across many major fashion
shows for spring/summer. From
panels and prints to high-low hems
and statement ruffles, this wardrobe
staple has been given a much-
needed makeover this season.

Tangerine dream
Zingy shades of tangerine brightened up
the spring/summer catwalks. Orange was
the new black at Stella McCartney, Prada,
Emilia Wickstead and Valentino to name
just a few. This zesty hue was used in
everything from daywear separates to
evening gowns and coats. There’s no doubt
about it, the future’s bright.

Back to the 70s
Thanks to the success of the
Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in
Hollywood, the 1970s are enjoying yet
another fashion resurgence. The
trend was spotted at Missoni, Louis
Vuitton and Fendi, while Rixo went all
out to recreate Woodstock at its
show. Suede separates and
psychedelic prints sat alongside
punchy florals and retro fine knits to
transport you back in time.

Hot for the spot
This fun retro print never seems to date.
Polka dots were once again a big hit on the
catwalks, popping up in the collections at
Max Mara, Balmain and Michael Kors.
The playful print appeared in classic
monochrome but was also given more
colourful reworkings, which are perfect
for spring.

Bigger the better
Shrinking violets need not apply – this
season’s silhouette is very much a
case of more is more. The London
shows of Richard Quinn, Simone
Rocha and Erdem all showcased
voluminous looks featuring billowing
sleeves, full skirts and floor-scraping
hemlines, bringing a real element of
drama to the collections.

Floral
fancies
Is it even spring
fashion if florals don’t
get a mention? It may
not be groundbreaking
but florals are the
seasonal staple that keep on giving. This
time round, designers focused on mixing
and matching prints and patterns.
Combining florals with other patterns and
embellishments gives a fresh twist on this
well-loved print.

This week campaigner and
food writer Heather Mills talks
about the properties of salt

‘‘Salt will draw
toxins out of
your body and
cleanse your
thoughts

I have a ritual which
involves showers in the
morning and a salt bath
at night, usually
Himalayan.
Years ago I was given some herbs by
a Chinese doctor and they said
wherever possible cook them in a glass
pot as metal pans can release their
coatings. So I bought some Pyrex glass
cooking pots and 15 years later they’re
still in perfect nick and spotless.
Most people just pour bath salts into
their bath water, but if you want a real
effect you should heat the salt in a pan
without water and stir it with a wooden
spoon so the salt becomes hot. Do it on
a low heat and it will break the capsule
of energy inside the salt and release it,
which may take 10 minutes.
Run a bath while you’re doing it.
Some of you will naturally know when
it’s happened, but for beginners just
know 10 minutes should be enough.
Empty the salt into a small glass bowl,
pour in some water, stir for five to seven
seconds with a wooden spoon.
When your bath is run at your
preferred temperature, pour the salt
into it, then immerse yourself. Play
some relaxing music, force yourself to
meditate and completely switch off.
This took me years of practice but I
managed to get
up to 30 minutes
which was very
difficult with my
busy mind.
The salts will
draw the toxins
out of your body
as well as help
cleanse your
thoughts and feelings.
You should repeat this healing bath
anytime you can or feel the need for it.
It’s also good to keep a bowl of glass for
salt in the place where you work or
spend a lot of time.
If you have a handy partner you
can build a wall of salt bricks really
inexpensively behind your bed and put
some colored lights behind it which can
benefit mood and boost relaxation.
Salt is meant to absorb negative
energies that most people are not
aware of.
If placed around the house, salt will
have a calming effect.
If you live in a very warm home you
can also place some bowls of salt water
near your bed when you go to sleep to
rehydrate the room.
