TiM KrUL made it a tale of two
keepers as Tottenham went
crashing out of the FA cup to
leave their season in danger of
falling apart.
And for Jose Mourinho, it was
another night of shoot-out misery

  • he has now won only one of the
nine he has faced in his long
    managerial career.
    Norwich keeper Krul saved two
    spot-kicks, from Troy Parrott and
    Gedson Fernandes, in a nervous
    shoot-out after Tottenham’s stand-
in Michel Vorm’s howler had gifted
    the visitors a late equaliser.
Krul is renowned as a penalty
specialist and he did not let his
team down as the home fans feared
the worst when Gedson stepped up
and saw his weak effort saved.
Eric Dier and Giovani Lo Celso
were on target for Spurs, Erik
    Lamela missed but bottom-of-the-
table Norwich kept their nerve to
inflict a fourth straight defeat on
    Mourinho and book a quarter-final
clash with the winner of tonight’s
    Derby v Manchester United tie.
    Yet Tottenham had started well
and, despite lacking a natural cen-
    tre-forward, they pinned Norwich
    back with sustained pressure.
    Bergwijn found Lucas Moura
whose lay-off set up Lo Celso but
his shot was superbly saved by
    Norwich keeper Krul.
    The reprieve did not
    last long as Tottenham
    were ahead after just
    13 minutes. Norwich
    midfielder Mario
    Vrancic was booked
for a foul on Lo Celso
and it gave Spurs a free-
kick in a dangerous position on the
    left edge of the box.
Lo Celso put over a teasing cross
and, when Krul got caught in two
minds, Jan Vertonghen rose to head
powerfully home at the back post.
Just when it looked like Spurs
    would take charge, Norwich came
    back at them and Tottenham’s
    third-choice keeper Vorm, making
his first start in 533 days, looked
    decidedly rusty.
The equaliser was coming – and
it eventually arrived after 78 min-
utes following a clanger from Vorm.
    Norwich substitute Kenny
    McLean unleashed a 20-yard shot
    and, when Vorm spilled what
    should have been a straightforward
catch, Drmic (above) chased in to
force home the rebound from close
    range.
    Tottenham have kept just two
clean sheets in 13 home games
    under Mourinho.
    The Londoners should have
nicked a winner when Serge Aurier
looked certain to score but he was
denied by a heroic clearance from
Ben Godfrey as the tie went into
    extra time.
The closeness of the tie should
    have come as no surprise.
    The Premier League clash at
    Carrow Road in December finished
2-2 and in London a month later
Spurs needed a late winner to seal
    the three points.
But that seems a long time ago
now for Mourinho and his men,
    who looked shattered last night.

England boss Phil Neville

Phil Neville has told his
england players not to
dwell on what might have
been when the lionesses
take on the USA in the
SheBelieves Cup tonight.
The lionesses suffered a
heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in
the 2019 World Cup semi-
final at the Stade de lyon.
england were left to rue
what might have been after
captain Steph houghton
missed a late penalty, and
the USA then went on to lift
the trophy.
But head coach Neville
maintains the current
squad should focus on the
positives of how close they
came to achieving
something special.
“We haven’t thought
about the semi-final,” he
said. “That’s what we said
to the players. Don’t read
or be influenced by what
you thought happened in
that semi-final.
“We controlled the play,
had the most possession,
created some really good
chances and, ultimately, it
was a missed penalty away
from being something
really special.
“That game is gone,
this is a new team and
new season, with a new,
clear direction where we
are going.”

ChRiS WilDeR has refused
to rule out a Champions
league spot for his
Sheffield United side.
The Blades are closing in
on europe after reaching
the FA Cup quarter-finals.
And if Wilder’s men win
their game in hand, they
would be two points off the
Premier league’s top four –
when they were pre-season
favourites for the drop.
Asked if Champions
league football is possible,
Blade boss Wilder said:
“What we have done
consistently in the Premier
league, our performances
and results, is fantastic and
i can’t see us backing off.
“i won’t allow the players
to and they have got a
hunger as a group to go
and attack the next game.”

Gedson Fernandes’s spot-kick. But
Spurs have now lost four
consecutive games in all
competitions and are set to finish
another season without a trophy.
They trail RB Leipzig after a
home defeat in the first leg of the
Champions League last 16 and are
seventh in the Premier League.
Subs Erik Lamela and Troy
Parrott also missed penalties for
Spurs. Keeper Michel Vorm had
saved Kenny McLean’s first kick,
but the Dutch keeper was unable

to make amends for his terrible
blunder which gifted Norwich an
equaliser in normal tie.
Tottenham (Mourinho, left) had
taken the 13th-minute lead when
captain Jan Vertonghen headed
home a free kick from Giovani Lo
Celso. Backed by 9,000 travelling
supporters, the Canaries battled
to stay in the game.
And Vorm who had not started
a game since September 2018,
dropped a long-range shot from
McLean after 76 minutes to allow
Josip Drmic to level.
