Heels’
What does ’80s all-female rock
band the Go-Go’s have in
common with elizabethan poet
Sir Philip Sidney? the answer is
the jukebox musical “Head over
Heels,” which drops such toe-
tapping Go-Go’s songs as
“vacation” and “We Got the
beat” i nto a plot inspired by
Sidney’s “a rcadia.”
Monumental theatre company
stages this recent broadway
show featuring couples on a
quest for love, set in a magical
kingdom with princesses and
oracles. Through March 23.

March 11 Motherhood
redux
three acclaimed poets turn
motherhood into verse as part
of the Folger Shakespeare
library’s o.b. Hardison poetry
series. tina chang, camille

dungy and beth ann Fennelly
will read their works reflecting
on being a mom, with all its joy,
sorrow and everything between.
the event will be held at the
national Museum of Women in
the arts, as the Folger’s library
and exhibition spaces are
under renovation. Stick around
after the poetry reading for a
wine reception and book

March 12 environmental
Film Fe stival
the environmental Film Festival
in the nation’s capital bills itself
as the longest-running festival
of its kind in the united States.
In 2020, its spate of climate-
change-themed films feels
particularly timely, such as ron
Howard’s documentary
“rebuilding Paradise,” which
spotlights what happened after
northern california’s
devastating 2018 wildfires, or

the short film “bare existence,”
about the plight of polar bears.
More than 100 eco-themed
films will be screened at 25
locations around town during
the festival’s run, including the

opening-night screening of
“okavango: river of dreams,”
with filmmakers dereck and
beverly Joubert on hand to
discuss their research on this
african ecosystem. tickets for

the 10 programs at the national
Geographic Museum are on
sale, and the full schedule will
be released this month. Through

March 14 ‘Genderosity’
the Gay Men’s chorus of
Washington d.c.’s spring show
is a glam-rock-themed ode to
self-expression, set to numbers
such as “dancing Queen” and
“born this Way.” the upbeat
music of “Genderosity” is
paired with production numbers
featuring dancers, drag queens,
elaborate costumes and more.
the choir also will share the
stage with the all-female
percussion band batalá, a
group devoted to samba-reggae
music boasting more than 75
musicians in the Washington
chapter. Through March 15.
