INCE2007,THEInternationalGardenPhotographerof theYear

competitionhasofferedamateurandprofessionalphotographers

theworldovertheopportunityto submittheirfinestimagesof

gardens,plantsandflowers,withthechanceto scoopsomemajor

prizes.IGPOTYis runin associationwiththeRoyalBotanicGardens,

Kew,withthemainexhibitionheldannuallyat Kewanda rolling

programmeof touringexhibitionsin theUKandallovertheworld.

Theannualcompetitionrunsuntil 31 Octobereachyear,withthe

winnersannouncedat theopeningofthelaunchexhibitionthe

followingFebruary.Thereare11 maincategoriesandnumerous

specialawardsincludingYoungGardenPhotographeroftheYear.

Therearealsoseasonalcategories,knownasPhotoProjects,with

resultsannouncedfourtimesa year.Thereis a smallfeeforentering

thecompetition,whichhelpstocovertheadministrationofthe

competition:£12forfoursingleimages,or£25fora portfolio.If you're

a keenphotographerofallthingsbotanical,it'sa smallpricetopayto

havethechancetoshowcaseyourworkandhaveit judgedalongside

theimagesofamateursandprosfromaroundtheworld.

Fireworks,byJillWelhamofNorthYorkshire,wontheAbstractViews

categoryandwasalsoawardedOverallWinner,witha topprizeof

£7,500andtheaccoladeofInternationalGardenPhotographerofthe

Year.Jillusedherpassionforthecyanotypephotographicprint

processtocreateherabstractprintrevealingthedetailsofthreeAllium

headswiththewetcyanotypeprocess,resultingin intricatecircular

patternsandfluidshapes.JocelynHorsfallbagged£2,000asthe
