‘RUdE’ Mr von Hessen
Tycoon calls
cop ‘poofter’
but is cleared
NOTORIOuS property
tycoon Nicholas Adolf von
Hessen suggested a police
officer was a “poofter”, a
court heard.
Mr von Hessen, 75,
formerly Nicholas van
Hoogstraten, made the
comment after his son was
arrested following an argu-
ment over car-clamping at
a car park he owns.
Brighton magistrate
Barbara Dart said she
heard Mr von Hessen say
“Maybe he’s a poofter as
well,” in a video but that he
was not confrontational
and not criminal, just rude.
He was cleared of behav-
iour causing harassment,
alarm or distress at the car
park in Hove.
Mr von Hessen was con-
victed of the manslaughter
of a business rival in 1999
but it was later overturned.
He lost a civil case.
