Bullied to do
unpaid work
Young women are pres-
sured and bullied to do
unpaid work, preventing
them from taking up paid
employment, a study says.
Their cooking, cleaning
and child care is a huge
contribution to the econ-
omy, says the group Young
Wom en’s Tr ust
The trust said the carer’s
allowance should rise to
acknowledge this.
Chief executive Sophie
Walker said: “Young
women are not oK. They
are telling us that it is time
to value what they do.”
‘Ditch carbs
and diet pop’
DrinKing diet pop with
carbohydrates may be
more harmful than having
the sugar version alone.
The brain’s response to
sweet taste fell when arti-
ficial sweetener and carbs
were mixed, experts found.
Consuming a diet drink
and fries reduces insulin
sensitivity, which may lead
to more weight gain than if
a sugary drink was drunk.
Dana Small, of Yale
university, said: “it’s oK to
have a Diet Coke once in a
while, but you shouldn’t
drink it with lots of carbs.”
