OAP menace
AN OAP has appeared in
court for the 138th time
after threatening to kill
gypsies in a charity shop.
Patrick Niblett, 79, has
racked up 236 offences –
including GBH – since
1962 and has been in jail so
many times that police say
it no longer affects him.
Last September he went
into Age UK, ran a finger
across his throat and said:
“I don’t like gypsies.”
Police detained 5ft 2ins
Niblett outside the
Worcester store and found
two knives on him.
Niblett, who lives in the
city, admitted possessing a
blade in a public place and
a public order offence at
Worcester crown court.
Judge Jim Tindal called
him a “menace” and a “rac-
ist”, sentencing him to
eight months suspended
with a three-month curfew.

Everton chief
gifts £140k to
trunk trekker
EVERTON chairman Bill
Kenwright has donated
£140,000 to fundraiser
Speedo Mick, who walked
the length of the country
in his swimming trunks.
Mick, real name Michael
Cullen, hiked from John
o’Groats to Land’s End for
Leave The Light On, which
supports isolated people.
He was invited to Good-
ison Park by Mr Kenwright
for Sunday’s game with
Manchester United, where
he received the gift.
The Everton fan said: “I
go up there and Gareth
Southgate is in there, Jenny
Seagrove [Kenwright’s
partner], Bobby Charlton.
“Bill Kenwright comes
over and slips a little piece
of paper under my saucer.
“To my astonishment it
was a cheque for £140,000.”
Mr Cullen has now
raised more than £500,000.

Green’s the new black
mental impact of cheap clothes.
The flood of bargain garments
from chains has led to fears over
throwaway fashion, with items
binned and not recycled. But
more than half of shoppers are
choosing long-lasting clothes
over cheaper fashionable items,
up a third on a year ago.
The proportion of shoppers
who consciously choose fast
fashion has fallen 46.2% to 14%

  • and 71.3% are opting to recycle
    compared to 59.7% last year.
    Lee Lucas, principal of the
    Fashion Retail Academy, said:
    “The focus on sustainability has
    finally been embraced by
    consumers in a big way.”
