STAYING PUT Gerrard is
committed to Rangers task
Steven Gerrard insists
he’s “all in” at rangers –
after rubbishing claims he
was ready to quit.
the Ibrox boss admitted
Saturday’s 1-0 Scottish Cup
defeat by Hearts was “the
lowest I felt since I came
into the job by a long way”.
and it led to speculation
ex-england and Liverpool
skipper Gerrard was on the
verge of walking away after
almost two years in charge.
But when quizzed if he
had thought about his
future, Gerrard, 39, said:
“Long term? no, no.
“From the end of the
game at the weekend,
which was bitterly
disappointing, I have done
a real lot of thinking to
myself and shared those
thoughts with people
around me – and I’m ready
to go again.
“I’ve signed up to
something here. I’m in, I’m
all in. I always knew there
would be periods like this
that were tough, real
setbacks.
“I think this is when the
club needs me most, and
that is to stay strong and
fight on and push and
continue to try to improve
this and build on the
progress we have made in a
lot of areas.”

have to bounce back pretty
quickly from setbacks.”

Gers fear
JOSE MOURINHO will resist
the clamour to start teenage
striker Troy Parrott because he
says Tottenham fans have not
seen him in action — nor even
know what he looks like.
And the former Manchester
United boss said the Irishman had
to learn “to keep his feet on the
ground” like Scott McTominay at
the start of his career.
Injuries to Harry Kane and
Heung-min Son have led to calls for
the 18-year-old forward to ease
Spurs’ striker crisis. But Mourinho
said Parrott, who has played six
minutes in two Premier League
appearances, would be back on the
bench against Norwich tonight.
“He’s a kid, so we need to take
care of him,” said the Spurs boss.
“He has potential, but is not the end
product. This is a world where lots
of people don’t even know if Troy
has long hair or short hair. Or is
blond or is dark.
“They don’t even know that and
speak about, ‘Troy, Troy, Troy, Troy,
he should play’. There was a guy
behind me on the bench the other
day, ‘Play Troy, play Troy’. I don’t
think he knows Troy.”
Mourinho sent Parrott back to
the Under-23s on Monday as part
of his “educational process” after
questioning the Republic of Ireland
player’s attitude.
He said: “He needs to have his feet
on the ground, we need to help him
do that. To behave like a very young
professional, that has a career
ahead of him, not as somebody in
the last part of his career.
“I was worried about attitude. I
told him, ‘Every time you play with
kids of your age, you have to show
them why you are the privileged
one. Why you are training in the
first team every day and some of
them are not’. Because it was
something he was not doing. He
cannot go there with contempt.
“I had exactly the same words
with McTominay. He did not have
the right frame of mind. The
moment that improved, lots of
things started changing for him.
“Kids have things too easy in life.
So if he plays against Norwich and
scores the winning goal, and is on
the back page of your newspapers,
nothing changes. The next week he
goes back to the Under-23s.”
