VOGUE PARTNERSHIP

THOUGH SET IN the male-dominated society of 19th-
century Paris, the story of pioneering scientist Marie Curie
is just as groundbreaking today as it was over 100 years ago.
Radioactive, a biopic starring Rosamund Pike as Curie, is
a bold portrait of a woman remarkable in her curiosity,
determination and passion, blazing a trail for women
in science, while persevering in the face of gender inequality.
Directed by visionary female director Marjane Satrapi and
produced by Working Title – which brought us Atonement,
Darkest Hour and The Theory of Everything – Radioactive
tells the story of Curie’s revolutionary exploration
of radioactivity, alongside husband Pierre Curie (Sam Riley),
and its far-reaching effects on modern science. A unique
and ambitious portrait of a truly extraordinary woman, this
nuanced film also explores the consequences of Curie’s
discoveries, both positive and negative, and her fight to
see her work recognised.
Pike’s remarkable performance as Curie makes the film
a must-see on the big screen,
bringing to life the scientist’s fierce
intelligence and determination, as
well as her humanity. To coincide
with International Women’s Day
on 8 March, nationwide satellite
preview screenings of the film will
take place alongside a live Q&A
session hosted by both Pike and
director Marjane Satrapi, ahead of
its cinema release on 20 March. n
