EXAMPLE 13-18 INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR WALL WORKUP SHEETS

Following are the workup sheets (Figure 13.44) for the exterior and
interior wall framing for the building found in Figure 13.8.

13–5 Ceiling Assembly

In this section, a quantity takeoff of the framing required for
the ceiling assembly of a wood frame building is done. The
ceiling assembly will require a takeoff of ceiling joists, head-
ers, and trimmers that is quite similar to the takeoff done for
the floor assembly.
First, a careful check of the specifications and drawings
must be made to determine whether the ceiling and roof are
made up of joists and rafters (Figure 13.45), often called
“stick construction,” or prefabricated wood trusses which are
discussed in Section 13–10.
Ceiling joists, from the contract documents, determine
the following:

  1. The size, spacing, and grade of framing required.
    2. The number of ceiling joists required by dividing the
spacing into the length and by adding one (the same as
    done for floor joists).
    3. The length of each ceiling joist. (Don’t forget to add one-
    half of any required lap.)
