Determine the volume of cut and fill between stations 00 00
and 0075. The first step is to profile stations 0000 and 0075.

Figure 9.21 shows the profile for all stations. A quick observation of
these profiles shows that they contain only cut. The next step is to deter-
mine the cut area for each of the profiles. Because these profiles are
drawn to scale, albeit a different vertical and horizontal scale, they can
be calculated easily by breaking up these profiles into rectangles and tri-
angles to find the area. Alternately, the area of cuts and fills can be mea-
sured using estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff. Figure 9.22
is an example of how the cut area for station 0000 was calculated.
