TheMaxDelbrückCenterforMolecularMedicine intheHelmholtzAssociation (MDC)

isan internationallyrenownedbiomedicalresearch center.ResearchersattheMDC

investigate the molecular mechanisms of health and disease, and translate those fndings

into medicalapplication.TheMDCisaresearch institution fundedbytheGermanFederal

GovernmentandtheState ofBerlin,and isamemberoftheHelmholtzAssociation of

GermanResearchCenters.

MDCresearcherscollaborate closelywith colleaguesatBerlinuniversities,Charité–

UniversitätsmedizinBerlin,theBerlinInstitute ofHealthand manyotherinstitutions.

TheMDCisamemberinstitution oftheGermanCenterforCardiovascularResearch

(DZHK)andtheNationalCohort.Additionally,theMDCworkswithbiotech companies

andthe pharmaceutical industryin developingapplicationsfrom itsresearch.

TheMDChasacurrentannualbudgetofapproximately€ 180 million.Around 1, 250

employeesand 5 00 guestscurrentlyworkattheCenter’ssitesinBerlin-BuchandBerlin-

TheMDCinvitesapplicationsforthe position of

Chair of the Board and Scientifc Director

(m/f/x)

to be flled as soon as possible.

The Chair of the Board simultaneously serves as the Scientifc Director and offcially

representstheCenterand itsresearch, especiallyatthe intersection ofscienceand politics.

The candidateisexpectedtoadvancethe developmentoftheMDCwithintheHelmholtz

Associationandthe collaborationwithstrategic partners,suchasCharité–Universitäts-

medizin,theBerlinInstitute ofHealthanduniversitiesinBerlin.The candidateshares

responsibilitywiththeAdministrativeDirectorforthe operativemanagementandsusta-

inablesuccessoftheCenter.

Duetotheresponsibilitiesandsize oftheCenteraswellasthe close collaborationwith

partnersinuniversities, clinics, corporationsand othernationaland internationalresearch

centers,the candidatewill need excellentleadershipand communicationskills,aswellas

experience in the scientifc management of an international scientifc institution or in

similarareas.Additionalprerequisitesareanabilityto developstrategic plans,topresent

and implementthese persuasivelyandassertively,andto integratestaff members

effectively.The candidateisalsoexpectedtohaveexperience in international cooperation

and inthetransferof knowledge fromresearchandscience intosociety.

Astrongtrackrecord inbasicbiomedicalresearchand/ortranslational medicineand/or

pharmaceuticalresearchand developmentisalsorequired.

Experience isexpected instrategic corporatemanagementaswellasin interactions

with governance bodies such as supervisory boards and international scientifc advisory

boards.ExcellentEnglishandGermanlanguageskillsarerequired,and knowledge ofthe

Germanresearchsystemwouldbeanadvantage.

The position will be flled for fve years, with the possibility of extension for additional

terms.Thesalarywillbebased ontheremunerativeframework forprominentuniversity

professors,withthe possibilityof performance-relatedremuneration.
