This year in the month of May, I had the
opportunity to travel to Paradise on
Earth, a place nestled in the midst of
the Great Himalayas, enthralled by the
beauty of serene lakes and rivers. Yes,
I’m talking about Kashmir. Sure, the
snow clad mountains add to the
beauty of the place, but what makes it
unique is a lake that left me feeling
astonished the most;
The Dal Lake.The Dal Lake houseboat where we
spent our final night in Kashmir was
the icing on the cake. In the evening,
the lake became quiet as Srinagar, a
stunning city, came to life. It
completed our visit to Kashmir and
made us fall in love with the place.Why is it so unique? Well, when I
talk of a lake, what is it that you’d
imagine? A sizable body of water
with a view of the sunset and a boat
to take you to some of the best
spots with a view, right? But the Dal
Lake had much more than that in
store. When you get to the lake, you
would have a traditional Kashmiri
boat called the Shikara, to take you
around in the lake. It starts off calm
and peaceful. The still lake with the
sound of the water being pushed
backwards with the oar, the view of
Zabarwan range of mountains
under the rich blue sky, the
Shankaracharya temple, a floating
garden donned with all the
beautiful flowers to add some color
to the view, all of it made the sail
inexplicably beautiful. After sailing
in the lake for a while, we notice
some people selling things in
Shikaras of their own.
