We all know the AI phenomenon,

But I bet you haven't heard about IA!

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and
celebrate those differences - Audre Lorde
In a world of changing times and perspectives. We are venturing into a phase
where inclusivity has become more known and the differently abled are
appreciated for their abilities.
But, is this only a passing phenomenon?
Or are we truly entering an inclusive era where we all have the right to work
regardless of our intellectual or physical disabilities?
In the past there have been many advocates who have fought for their rights but,
is that enough?
In my personal opinion and experience, this change must start with educating
people in the workforce about who and what these people are. There are many
biased notions which further turn into fears. The best example one can give is of
a few handpicked hotels and restaurants willing to train and hire people
according to their "abilities". But that's just a mere 10% of our multi-billion
industry.
So, should this matter? In my opinion, our industry acts as a doorway to many
wonderful things. Teaching the differently abled has made me understand that
everyone is beautifully unique. Some are creative, some task-oriented and
organized, while some enjoy being sociable. I have seen that many have
performed extremely meticulously when asked to perform a certain task in a
repetitive format. Eg. Laundry department where sorting or stacking of linen is
done or the culinary department where chopping and washing are just some
examples.
