Born in Abu Dhabi of
Indian heritage, Basu,
19, now lives in Toronto,
Canada. A National
Geographic Young
Explorer, she started
the Green Hope Foun-
dation to give voice
to young people. She
helped children replant
mangroves in the
deforested Sundarbans
on the Bay of Bengal
and planted trees
in a refugee camp in
Bangla desh. Her
optimism in the future
is reflected in her
foundation’s name.
