SAY
LETTER of the MONTH

CODE CRACKER UNVEILED
Thank you to Jessie Flanders for your
service to our country (St Kilda Spy,
AW W, April). She kept her secret for
so long! Women play a vital role at
home and abroad during times of
conflict, and deserve to be recognised.
P. Harvey, Hammondville, NSW.

KINDNESS OF STRANGERS
Visiting from Switzerland I picked up your
April issue featuring the Kindness Project
and I thought I’d share my experiences of
how kind and nice Australians have been
to me. From the driver who stopped his
bus to give me detailed directions, to the
lady in Broome who held my hand while I
was seasick (who does that to someone
who’s not a very close loved one?). Food
offered and phones lent, a free ride when
I couldn’t recharge my Opal card. A lady
who saw me walking the streets of
Coober Pedy at 42°C and drove me to
my destination because “it’s too hot to
walk” (then waited for me to sightsee
before driving me back!). Kindness is not
lost on Australians and it was vastly
appreciated by this solo traveller.

LESSONS IN POSITIVITY
I’m grateful for the story on Sophie
Delezio (I’m Going to Spread My Wings,
AW W, April). Her amazing story from
childhood to adulthood is so inspiring
that it brings me to shame about my
own feelings towards recovering from
breast cancer. I hope to learn from
Sophie’s bravery and I wish her a journey
of wonderful discovery in England.

HUMBLE SHOWMAN
“I’m A Bloody Lucky Man” (AW W, April)
described Hugh Jackman perfectly.
I met Hugh at Jindabyne one year while
holidaying in our caravan. He was friendly
and charming, without airs or graces.
I always remember how friendly he was.
A. Davis, Tabulam, NSW.
