We all know how important exercise and
movement is, and it’s especially important
when you’re going through a massive
transformation. Not only does exercise help
with anxiety and depression, which are very
common to feel during a dark night of the
soul, but it also helps move stagnant energy
and allows you to ground all the extra energy
that is running through your body. Go for
a walk, dance, run, lift some weights, do
anything that connects you back to your body
and inner child.

If you’ve ever experienced a spiritual awakening so intense that it completely pushed you to your limits, congratulations; you’ve been through
one of the toughest initiations any being on this planet can go through. This ego-shattering transformation is called the dark night of the soul,
and it happens when our souls are finally ready to face our shadow side and all the memories, fears, insecurities, and emotions that we’ve
repressed, and it feels like a heavy, heart-shattering existential depression. A dark night of the soul can be sparked by something traumatic that
happens, such as the death of a loved one or a breakup, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes the transformation is subtle and it just feels
like the rug has been slipped out from under you. This experience isn’t limited to any time frame; it can last for a short amount of time or longer.
There is no specific cure for this experience; it really is about sitting with the emotions that are coming up during this time and allowing yourself
to feel it all. That’s totally easier said than done, but there are a few things you can do to help ease the process and ground yourself during these
tumultuous times.
Nature is healing. It is so medicinal and
it’s always available to us, what a blessing
that is! Go for a hike or to your local
park and just sit on the grass and take
deep, relaxing breaths. Maybe even take
off your shoes and stand barefoot on
the ground. Be present and take it all in,
allow yourself to be one with nature. We
don’t realize how simple and refreshing it
is to just enjoy these little moments that
life gives us.
This is definitely a difficult one! When we experience a dark night of the soul, all of our
repressed emotions and fears come up to the surface. It’s asking us to heal and release what
no longer serves us for the next step of our evolution. What are some fears and insecurities
that are coming up during this time? What are you being asked to let go of? What are some
changes you have to make in your life? Tune in and be honest with yourself. On the other side
of getting your hands dirty and doing this hard work is infinite inner peace and love.
This process can get very lonely
and daunting if we don’t have
the proper tools and support
system. Make sure you seek out
help from friends, loved ones, and
professionals. Get a therapist or a
trusted coach that knows what a
dark night of the soul feels like so
they can help you through it and
be there during the lows. Keep
in mind that they can’t do the
work for you, but they can offer
guidance and a listening ear.
The dark night of the soul is a total purging
process on every level. It won’t only affect you on
a spiritual level, it’ll also most likely affect you on
a physical level. You might start feeling the urge
to change your diet or you might feel like you no
longer resonate with the hobbies you used to like.
Let go so you can make space for new hobbies and
interests! Start immersing yourself in different
things, maybe try a new dance class or take a
cooking class. Do something that helps you get out
of your comfort zone.
