Pengenalan
IBSE means students progressively developing key scientific ideas through learning
how to investigate and build their knowledge and understanding of the world
around. They use skills employed by scientists such as raising questions, collecting
data, reasoning and reviewing evidence in the light of what is already known,
drawing conclusions and discussing results. This learning process is all supported
by an inquiry-based pedagogy, where pedagogy is taken to mean not only the act
of teaching but also its underpinning justifications. (IAP, 2010, p.18)
Inquiry-based learning is an education approach that focuses on investigation and
problem-solving. Inquiry-based learning is different from traditional approaches
because it reverses the order of learning. Instead of presenting information, or ‘the
answer’, up-front, teachers start with a range of scenarios, questions and problems
for students to navigate. (Department of Education, Skills and Employment
Australia, 2020)
Inquiry-based approaches to learning are active pedagogical strategies that
develop students’ abilities to ask questions, design investigations, solve problems,
interpret data and evidence, form explanations and arguments, and communicate
findings. (McDonald, 2016, p.538)
Inquiry-based learning is more than asking a student what he or she wants to know.
It’s about triggering curiosity. And activating a student’s curiosity is, I would
argue, a far more important and complex goal than mere information delivery.

Berpandukan petikan-petikan di atas, cuba renung apakah matlamat pembelajaran berasaskan
inkuiri?
Pembelajaran berasaskan inkuiri mendorong pemahaman ilmu dan pembangunan kemahiran
yang diperlukan oleh murid pada abad ke-21. Pendekatan ini sesuai digunakan dalam semua
disiplin STEM bagi memberikan peluang kepada murid terlibat dalam aktiviti autentik dan
bermakna yang berkaitan dengan dunia sebenar (McDonald, 2016). (Sila rujuk Lampiran

Apabila anda dengar mengenai “STEM”, apakah yang terlintas dalam fikiran anda? Sebelum
anda baca dengan lebih lanjut, sediakan pensel dan kertas. Kemudian, luangkan sedikit masa
untuk menulis apa-apa sahaja yang ada dalam fikiran anda mengenai “STEM”.
Buat masa ini, adakah pengajaran dan pembelajaran kelas anda mengintegrasikan STEM?
Jelaskan.
STEM ialah akronim yang biasa digunakan untuk menggambarkan pendidikan atau amalan
profesional dalam disiplin sains, teknologi, kejuruteraan dan matematik.
