Teachers should take action to implement the formative assessment cycle.
Thiswillinvolvethefollowing:
- making formativeassessmentpartoftheirlessonplanning (including ways
to involve students in assessing their own work, and making clear to
themselvesandothersthegoalsofinquiryactivities)
- systematically gathering evidenceof students’ learning during teachingby
observing, listening, questioning, and discussing concepts and activities
withstudents
- interpretingevidence inrelationtoclassgoalsand,withstudents,deciding
thenextstepsinlearning
- enabling students to take the steps to advance their understanding and
skills by, for example, extending their experience, helping them test their
ideas,orprovidingaccesstoalternativeideas
- involvingstudentsinassessingtheirownwork
- reviewingandreflectingontheteachingandlearningtoinformfuturework
