Editor, woman&home
I
’m lucky to meet some very inspiring
people as editor of woman&home,
and this month I had the best time
catching up with Twiggy and hearing
all about her going to Buckingham
Palace to get her damehood.
Apparently, you are only supposed
to take two people with you to sit in
the gallery and Twiggy was quite sad
that her sisters couldn’t be part of the
occasion. She says, “I mentioned this
to the lady organising the proceedings
and she said we could squeeze a few
more people in. It was so special to be
there with all my family looking on. My
sister Shirley is 15 years older than me
so she’s a bit like a second mum. She
cried when she got to the Palace.”
Celebrating heart-warming stories
from celebrities and women from
all walks of life is at the heart of
woman&home, and in this issue we
have several I think you will enjoy.
There’s a brilliant memoir on page 66
by author Kate Spicer, who has written
about losing her beloved dog Wolfy and
what she learned about the kindness
of strangers when trying to find him.
with Hotter. From Nadine Baggott,
56, a journalist and YouTube star
who specialises in beauty for women
over 50, to Alice Morrison, 53, who
describes herself as an adventurer...
these are the sorts of women who
make me feel exciting opportunities
are ours for the taking.
But if you’re more in the mood
for taking things easy (and trust me,
I can totally relate to that), then our
feature on living a simpler life (page
12) is sure to appeal. Writer Christabel
Smith has interviewed experts
including Buddhist priest Shunmyo
Masuno about how to find peace in
the hurly-burly of the world we live
in, and it’s full of ideas to help you
snatch a bit of calm.
Our gardens are just the place for
quiet reflection, and as the summer
is approaching our Homes Editor Holly
Walsh has come up with new ideas
on how to create lovely places to
relax outside (page 173). I’m dreaming
about lunch under a tree decorated
with pom-poms and twinkly lights
right now. I hope you are too...
