Felafel
(feh-LAH-fal)

Fellahin
(FELL-ah-heen)

a small-scale farmer. The
lifestyle of most fellahins has
only recently begun to change
with mechanised cultivation.
The term originates from the
Arabic word meaning ‘farmer’.

Felucca
(feh-LUKE-kah)

a narrow wooden sailing
boat with a lateen sail used
in Egypt. These boats are of
various sizes, often around
7.5 m (25 feet) long, and have
been used in Egypt for many
centuries. Today, feluccas
are used to transport goods,
tourists, and other people up
and down the Nile River.
Fuul hamam
(FOOHL heh-MAM)

small, round,
dark-brown beans
