Old style mausoleums like this one, are being rapidly replaced by
park-like cemeteries.

Chileans do not give money as a wedding gift. This would
imply that no thought was given to selecting a present
for the newlyweds. Even gift certificates are considered
inappropriate. Most couples receive traditional wedding
gifts, mainly household items. Increasingly couples are
registering at major department stores for specific gifts
to make it easier for their guests. These stores publish
Listas de Novios (lists of engaged couples) in the paper on
a regular basis.

Funerals


Following a death, a wake and funeral will be held at the
church on the same day. Because the body is not normally
embalmed, the funeral is held shortly after the death.
Very close friends and extended family often arrive at the
church a few hours prior to the service to provide support.
