Utilities and Internet


Utilities are very efficient and function regularly with minor
disturbances, if any. Most houses come with a phone line, or
you can get one through the phone company (e.g. Telefónica).
There are several competing long distance providers, as well
as internet providers. Dial-up Internet access is cheap or free,
but be careful with the phone charges. There are also several
cellular phone providers. Some companies bundle services
(cable TV, telephone and broad-band Internet service).
Utility companies require identification (I.D. card or
passport) and proof of residence to open an account and
begin service. Most utilities can be requested by phone or
via the Internet. Only under special circumstances would you
need to go to their offices to order them in person.
Water is potable. Susan drank water directly from the
tap and never had any health problems. Most people
arriving in a new country will have minor stomach upsets
as they become accustomed to the change in overall diet
