Tickets

If you are pulled over by a Carabinero and given a ticket,
your license will be taken away. You will be given the ticket
and a summons to appear in court. You are allowed to drive
on your ticket, unless the offence is very serious and your
driving privileges have been revoked. In general, you must
appear in the court of the municipality where the ticket was
issued on the date specified, but you can pay the fine or
ask for leniency through the Juzgado de Policía Local (Local
Police Court) closest to your home. If you are found guilty
a stiff penalty will be imposed. You cannot plead guilty
at the time of the offence and pay the policeman. Some
municipalities implemented new procedures to simplify
the process, whereby if you plead guilty you may pay the
fine at a bank.
