We must not exaggerate the effect of these manipulations: they are visible
and provoke resistance. But they should convince us of the fact that the class
enemy (it is not without a certain nostalgic pleasure that I use this old-
fashioned phrase) is acutely aware of the importance of the question of
language; and that she defends a philosophy of language whose essential
modus operandithis brief glossary has (I hope) illustrated: an emphasis on
irenism and dialogical communication coupled with a resolutely agonistic
practice that aims to prohibit dialogue or to make it unequal – a respect in
which linguistic exchange barely differs from exchange tout court.
