Because they hold vastly greater
color information, raws have far more
latitude for color correction than JPEGs, which
is very handy when the image displays a
strong color cast. Here an incorrect camera
white balance setting (the Fluorescent
preset) has resulted in a nasty color cast.
While the raw can be corrected with
completely natural results, the corrected JPEG
shows unsightly color casts in the highlights.
As well as using
white balance
presets and sliders,
you can also use the
White Balance Tool to
get perfect colors in
your raw photos. Grab
the tool and click on
a point in your image
that should be neutral:
a white wall, a grey
rock, or any surface
you know should be
lacking in color.
