MORE REASONS TO LOVE ROSE
Traditionally, it's presented as powdery in
perfumes, but the ‘queen of flowers’ can be
woody, have clove-like qualities or come across
as musky, even myrrh-y. As Gertrude Stein said,
‘Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose’. And in March,
Guerlain gives us a rose-tinted version of its
Mon Guerlain fragrance. Actually, ‘tinted’ is
an understatement – as well as rose essence, it
contains Bulgarian and Turkish rose absolutes,
alongside vanilla and sandalwood base notes.
March also sees the launch of an eau de
parfum in Goutal’s Rose Pompon collection.
Modelled on the round, bulbous variety (looks
a bit like a cabbage), this composition has a
dash of raspberry among its rich, honeyed
blooms. Victor & Rolf is adding a ‘Dew’ to its
Flowerbomb line-up. Built around a hybrid
tea rose, it’s a fresh, sparkling spritzer with
a hint of pink pepper and a smooth almondy,
balsamic dry down. Then there’s a L’Eau
follow-up to Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s
popular A La Rose Parfum. Here, Damascena
rose oil and Centifolia rose absolute (from
France) is freshened up with a green peony
blend – and it even comes in a dreamy hair
mist. And finally... paying tribute to its Parisian
roots, Eau Capitale is the latest offering from
Diptyque. More subversive than sweet, bursts of
citrusy notes give way to a smoky core, padded
out with rose petals and patchouli. We’re
coveting the limited-edition solid perfume.

From a fresh bouquet to wild, sun-baked blooms, we
pay tribute to the floral perfume notes trending in 2020
