TECHNICAL MICROBIOLOGY
Ref. No. P-20-03TUHH is looking for an internationallyrecognized personality whorepresents the field ofTe chnical
Microbiology and the corresponding institute withahighdegree of commitment inresearch and
teaching as an integral member of bioprocess engineering at the TUHH. The position is to be filled
in February 2021.Theresearch focus should be dedicated to the microbial and molecular biology
fundamentals of biosynthesis and biocatalysis withahighrelevance to application. In-depth expertise
in one or moreofthe followingresearch areasisdesirable:•Microbiological basis for the industrial use ofrenewable raw materials or environmentally
hazardous waste (for example microplastics, food waste, exhaust fumes, ...)
•Fundamentals of the technical use of microbial communities including microbial diversity
•Molecular optimization of biocatalysis with whole cells and enzymes
•Development of new carbon and energy sources (such as CO 2 ,CO, CH 4 andH 2 )
for biosynthesis
•Microbiological basis for electrochemical biosynthesis
•Establishment of artificial metabolic pathways/reaction cascades in vivo and in vitro
(synthetic micro- and molecular biology) that arerelevant forbiomanufacturing.Close interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues at TUHH and Hamburg’smajorresearch institu-
tions and industry torealize the vision of bio-based solutions forasustainable futureisexpected,
particularly inrespect of biosynthesis and biocatalysis with whole cells or enzymes up to technical
scale and the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in technical microbiology and bio-
technology.The area ofresponsibility of the professorship includes participation in teaching in the Bachelor and
Master Degree programs, especially the programs in Biochemical and Bioprocess Engineering with
basic and advanced lectures as well as laboratories in German and English.Wethereforeexpect
