[ 21 ]The World Wide Web - commonly known as WWW,

W 3 , or the Web- is an interconnected system of public
websites accessible through the Internet. The Web is not the
same as the Internet: the Web is one of many applications
built on top of the Internet. Tim Berners-Lee proposed the
architecture of what is known as the World Wide Web. He
created the first web server (en-US), the first web browser
(browser), and the first web page, on his computer at the
CERN physics research laboratory in 1990. In 1991 , he
announced its creation on the alt.hypertext newsgroup,
marking the moment when the Web went public. The system
we know today as "the Web" has several components: - The
HTTP protocol directs data transfers between the server and
the client. - To access a Web component, the client provides a
unique universal identifier, called a URL for Uniform
Resource Locator or URI for Uniform Resource Identifier
(formally called UDI for Universal Document Identifier). -
HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the most common
format for publishing web documents. - Linking, or
connecting resources through hyperlinks, is a concept that
defines the Web, contributing to its identity as a collection of
connected documents. As soon as he invented the Web, Tim
Berners-Lee founded the World Wide Web Consortium
(W 3 C) to standardize and develop the future of the Web.
This consortium is composed of the Web's major
stakeholders, such as web browser developers, government
entities, researchers, and universities. Its mission includes
education and outreach. Portions of this content are © 1998 -

[ 16 ]Dopamine is the most important catecholaminergic

neurotransmitter in the mammalian Central Nervous System
(CNS) and is involved in the regulation of various functions
such as motor behaviour, emotionality and affectivity as well
as neuroendocrine communication. Dopamine is synthesized
from the amino acid Ltyrosine and there are mechanisms that
precisely regulate its synthesis and release. Molecular
cloning techniques have allowed the identification of 5 types
of dopaminergic receptors, all of them coupled to G proteins
and divided into two pharmacological families called D 1 and
D 2. The D 1 family receptors (D 1 and D 5 subtypes) are
coupled to Gs proteins and stimulate cAMP formation as the
main mechanism of signal transduction. Subtypes belonging
to the D 2 family (D 2 , D 3 and D 4 ) inhibit cAMP formation,
activate K+ channels and reduce Ca 2 + ion influx through
voltage-dependent channels, effects also mediated by G-
proteins (Gαi and Gαo). Dopaminergic receptors are widely
distributed in various areas of the CNS (although
differentially according to subtype) where they are
responsible for the various physiological actions of dopamine.
The study of CNS dopaminergic systems and receptors has
generated great interest, because several alterations in
dopaminergic transmission have been related, directly or
indirectly, to severe disorders such as Parkinson's disease and
schizophrenia, as well as to drug addiction (amphetamines
and cocaine for example).

[ 17 ]Homeostasis. A state of balance between all body

systems necessary for survival and proper functioning. To
maintain homeostasis and respond to internal and external
changes, the body constantly adjusts acid, blood pressure,
blood sugar, electrolytes, energy, hormones, oxygen, protein
and temperature. This keeps these values within normal
limits. It is also called homostatic equilibrium and
homeostasis.
