FREESTANDING BEAUTIES
The freestanding oven is an alluring mix of beauty and brains, so while it’s often chosen for
its aesthetic qualities it also has a range of functional benefits over its built-in alternative.
“As well as providing a statement centrepiece to the kitchen – whether it’s professional-
style stainless steel or a colourful finish – a range cooker can offer so much more in terms
of cooking capacity and flexibility,” says marketing manager Robin Werth of Falcon. If
you’re an avid cook, feeding a large family or partial to entertaining, the large internal
space of a freestanding model is a real drawcard, and compartmentalised models even
allow you to cook a variety of foods at once. In terms of positioning, freestanding ovens
are straight forward to install and easy to move around when designing and updating a
kitchen, as they’re not restricted by a fixed location. However, they have a more traditional
set up, with the stove top above the oven, so before investing in your new centrepiece,
make sure you have the space to accommodate the cooker and create a seamless fit.
