How long have you been at HB? Helen: “I’ve
actually been with HB for just over 11 years!
I first started out in magazines as a copy girl
at Woman’s Day when I was 16, under the
editorship of the legendary Nene King. By 18, I
was editorial coordinator of Dolly magazine and
also ended up being the Dolly Club president.
One of my highlights there was helping out with
the famous Dolly model search, which was when
Miranda Kerr was scouted for the cover.”
What is your favourite section of HB? “I really
love our homes section – it’s so interesting
to see how people inject their own style and
tastes into their home, as well as the history
and stories behind their own spaces.”
Describe your favourite style when it comes to
home decorating: “I would describe my home
decorating style as ‘relaxed boho’. I love lots of
indoor greenery and treasures from my life –
my partner calls it clutter but I call it memories.”
What’s been your most memorable HB feature?
“It would have to be the inspirational shoot
from our Christmas issue in 2017 with my two
gorgeous daughters Layla and Indie (below). The
shots are such a special memory and my girls
had the best time – they’re still talking about it.”
My favourite cover of the magazine: “I honestly
couldn’t choose just one, because there’s
something I love about each of our covers.”
Do you have any daily HB rituals? “After
turning on my computer, the first thing I do
every day is send a ‘quote of the day’ to the whole
team for some motivation, positive vibes or a
giggle. One of my favourites? Your best teacher
is your last mistake – Ralph Nader.”
