KITCHEN The couple’s love
of timber inspired them to use
it beautifully and creatively
throughout the property. “We
wanted to have that Balinese
villa feel coming through,” says
Heather. Extending the timber
battens on the four-metre-high
ceiling down onto the wall was
a stroke of genius. “The generous
height meant we could have a
feature like this without closing in
the space,” she explains. “Kitchen
cabinets can only go so high.”
Aaron designed and formed the
concrete island bench to balance
the materials in the room and
added shadow lines in Rural Oak
by Laminex between the custom
polyurethane cabinetry – painted
in Dulux Natural White to match
the walls. A sleek open bench
extends into the butler’s pantry
and the kitchen is deliberately
designed without a rangehood.
“They’re hard to keep clean,” says
Heather, “and since we had the
open space, we didn’t need it
for ventilation. We didn’t want
any overhead cabinetry, either.” >
