also with the outdoors. Hotels, bars and

even the smallest cafes are thoughtfully

furnished and stylishly decorated, to form
an effortless beauty in which everything

finds its natural place. Read on to discover

author Lisa Arnold’s guide to shopping,

sleeping and eating like a local, and

discover the true Swedish style.

  1. Byredo
‘Byredo’ is derived from the word ‘redolence’,
    which means ‘pleasant (often evocative)
fragrance’, and the brand’s Swedish founder,
    Ben Gorham, a rather unconventional
perfumer with tattoos and a former career
as a basketballer, creates scents based on
    personal memories. Having already made
its way into upmarket department stores
in the US and Hong Kong, Byredo’s flagship
store sells the full range, including scented
candles and accessories as well as perfumes.

  2. Fablab
For stylist and Vogue photographer Johan
Svenson, his small store – a treasure chest
of contemporary curios – is a playground of
good design with a sense of humour. If you
know your friends (very) well, you’ll find
unusual gifts among an eclectic selection
of pithy self-help books, hipster cosmetics
and little ceramic monkeys. And, if you’re
shopping for yourself, you’ll come across
home accessories that you never knew
existed. An online shop provides a handy
consolation for those who can’t make it
during opening hours (Fablab opens from
    Thursday to Sunday only).

    3. RODEBJER
    WHEN CARIN RODEBJER WORE
    HER HANDMADE DESIGNS ON
THE STREETS OF NEW YORK IN
    1999, SO MANY PEOPLE ASKED
    HER WHERE SHE’D FOUND THEM
    THAT SHE TURNED HER PASSION
INTO WHAT IS NOW A HIGHLY
    SUCCESSFUL WOMEN’S FASHION
    LABEL. THE SOFT SILHOUETTES,
    PLAYFUL PRINTS AND SUBDUED
    COLOURS GIVE HER DESIGNS
    AN UNMISTAKEABLY FEMININE
    TOUCH. RODEBJER EXPRESSES
    THE PERSONALITY OF WOMEN
    WHO AIM FOR AUTHENTICITY
    RATHER THAN PERFECTION.
