THIS LARGE CAFE, WHICH EXTENDS ACROSS
SEVERAL ROOMS AND A COSY COURTYARD,
IS A STOCKHOLM INSTITUTION. IT WAS
FOUNDED BY ESTER NORDHAMMAR IN
1928, AT A TIME WHEN WOMEN HAD JUST
BEEN GIVEN THE VOTE AND FEW OF THEM
STARTED THEIR OWN BUSINESSES. THIS
PATISSERIE HAS BEEN SYNONYMOUS WITH
DELICIOUS CINNAMON SCROLLS, CAKES
AND TARTLETS EVER SINCE.

This cocktail bar is well worth a visit, not only
for its extravagant drinks menu, but also for
its unusual interior. Sweden’s first pharmacy
opened here, at Stockholm’s market square,
back in 1575, and the place is clearly still
fascinated by ingredients that lie at the
intersection between medicine and magic.

island is a mecca for fans of good seafood.
Lobster, oysters and prawns are all fixtures
on the menu, which is inspired by the cuisine
of France’s former colonies. Despite being
quite large, the space retains a sophisticated
