Usually at 4:30am I’m staring at
the back of my eyelids, but I made
an exception to wake for a sunrise
balloon flight over Cappadocia in
Turkey. My wife and I had already
spent a few days hiking in the area
and visiting magnificent churches
and caves, but the experience of
floating silently, thousands of
feet above the ground in the
company of other hot air balloons
was incredible. After an hour
drifting, we began to descend and
it struck me that seeing these
balloons land against the unique,
rocky landscape is somethingyou
won’t see anywhereelse on Earth
