not be able to go out and
enjoy our cars and driving at
the moment, the motoring
world still offers us lots of things to
keep us interested and engaged to
fuel our love of cars.
Browsing the used car classified ads
is one such thing. We’ve all lost hours
searching the classifieds for that dream
car, and then the same amount of time
trying to come up with reasons not
to subsequently go and buy it... That
pastime can continue even now, as
James Ruppert’s latest Bangernomics
special (p36) makes clear.
Although dealer showrooms might
be shut, new car sales are actually still
continuing. That’s thanks to the ability
to buy cars online (which we tell you
how to do on p42). This was a fast-
growing area for sales even before the
pandemic and it’s now the main focus
for car dealers and manufacturers
trying to keep the new car market
moving during a crisis.
Even with any potential boost in
online sales, the UK’s new car sales
figures for the coming weeks will
still make grim reading. But, as
China’s automotive industry has
shown in emerging from the
pandemic (p10), there is genuine
belief that an even more modern
and agile UK car industry will
continue to play such a huge
part in our lives.
