Like its 1 Series relative, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is based on the BMW Group’s
UKL2 platform. In 218i guise, it has a three-cylinder petrol engine placed at its nose,
driving the front wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Suspension is
by way of MacPherson struts up front and multiple links at the rear. BMW quotes a
kerb weight of 1420kg. We weighed our test car at 1375kg, split 59:41 front to rear.
