Are you a spoon feeder, or are
you letting baby lead the way
on your weaning journey? Put
a group of new mums in a
room and it’s likely they’ll each
have unique views on the
subject. However, a new study*
suggests that baby-led
weaning might be a good
option if you are worried about
your baby piling on the
pounds. When your child helps
himself to food it’s easier for
him to stop when he’s full,
whereas the researchers found
that mums had a more set idea
about how much baby should
eat, encouraging him with
the old favourite ‘just one
more mouthful...’
If you can’t face the thought
of baby-led weaning and
would rather spoon feed,
try to let him set the pace,
and make sure you pay
attention to cues that he
may be full, such as
turning his head
away, clamping his
mouth shut or
holding up his
hands.
Justonemore mouthful...
