Genetic
link
Researchers have discovered a
gene that seems to be linked to a
higher number of middle-ear
infections. This suggests that
if you or Daddy had middle-
ear issues, your baby is
more likely to get
them too.

Swimmer’s
ear
Water trapped inside her ear
provides a cosy environment for
germs. It can even happen when your
baby is splashing around in the bath.
‘The best way to avoid it is to dry your
youngster’s ears properly when she
comes out of the water,’ says Dr
Hesham. ‘Gently tilt your baby’s
head to one side and then
the other.’
