ber stacker, Kupollee,
who adopted the name
Pollee Allen, would
come home and work
in his productive gar-
den until dark, provid-
ing for his 15 children.
It was a work ethic he
passed on to his many
descendants, says
Vernetta Henson. “My
grandmother had nine
children, and all of
them went to college.”
