does not beget nor is he begotten
and there is none equal to Him.)

Margin: Mu~ammad rasUl Allah ar-
salahu bi-l-huda wa d,n il-~aqq li-
yu:{:hirahu 'ala-d-dln kullihi wa
law kariha-l-mushrikun. (Mu~am­
mad is the messenger of God
whom He sent with guidance and
the religion of truth in order to
make it victorious over all religion
even though the polytheists detest
[it].) The first four words para-
phrase Qur'an 9:33; the rest
quote it.

Field: la llah ilia llah wa~dahu la
sharlkun lahu. (There is only one
single God. He has no parmer.)
This is not a Qur'anic quotation,
but these terms occur together in
Qur'an 9:31.
Margin: bismillah r,laraba hadha dir-
ham bi-l-Kufati fi sanati tis'a wa
sab'ln. (In the name of God, this
dirham was struck in Kufa in year
seventy-nine.
