marriage to Greg, and two children, Evie
and Adelaide, with current partner, Chris
 Carrie also credits motherhood for
shifting her perspective.
“I’m very aware of how fleeting it can
all be especially since having kids,”
she admits. “I spend a lot of time trying
to enjoy the fact that we’re all healthy
and we’re all okay, and that’s because I
realise how quickly things can change.”

Embrace imperfection
The star’s approach to diet is as
pragmatic as her approach to exercise
and wellbeing. Rather than restrictive
diets and calorie counting, her motto for
food is very much in the ‘everything in
moderation’ school of thought.
“I’ve never been someone to diet or do
anything like that,” she says. “Growing
up in a family that likes fresh, healthy
food, I naturally eat and give my kids
fresh, healthy food, in turn. Saying that,
I also grew up in a family where having
yummy things was totally fine. So, I love
chocolate, and lollies, and all those kinds
of things, too.
“My mum used to make the most
amazing dinners. I remember her going
through phases, like, she went through
an Italian phase, then a Thai phase for
about three years!”

While the domestic goddess gene
may have skipped a generation, the TV
presenter does relish time in the kitchen.
“I didn’t quite get that gene,” she
concedes, chuckling. “But I’m getting
better. I do love cooking, I just don’t get
anywhere near as much time to do it as
I’d like. I actually love to cook with
my son.
“For a long time it was just the two of
us. A lot of my friends cook with their
daughters, and I’ve always cooked with
my son. And now he makes a couple of
meals a week, which is amazing that at
the age of 12 he can do that.”
Knowing just how fleeting and
precious life can be means that Carrie
has little time for a perfectly organised
pantry or a home that’s uncluttered
and organised.
“I think I’ve probably always had
to embrace imperfection,” she muses.
“My 20s was nothing like I thought it
would be, as we were trying to navigate
Greg’s brain cancer diagnosis, and now
I’m raising three gorgeous kids, while
working full time it’s chaos! Our house
is messy two seconds after it’s cleaned.
Nothing in my life has been ‘perfect’, but
it has still been incredible in so many
different ways.”
This knowledge that life can change

in a heartbeat has also had a part in the
way she views the ageing process. And
though she earns a crust in the visual
world of TV, where aesthetics reign,
the go-getter doesn’t have the time to
analyse her looks.
“Of course I’m aware of my
appearance, given I work on TV,” she
allows. “But I’m fortunate that my life is
so busy that, even if I wanted to spend
time obsessing about it, I just can’t!”
It’s an ethos that is also applied
to the down-to-earth personality’s
approach to getting older. With the big
4-0 taking place later this year, she sees
the milestone as just a number.
“A lot of my good friends are turning
40 this year, so we’re calling it the
‘festival of 40’,” she finishes, smiling.
“It’s a chance to have a damn good party
and to celebrate just how lucky we are to
be happy and healthy. Ask me closer to
the time and I might feel differently, but
right now, I just feel really content. I’m
more comfortable and happy in my skin
now than I’ve ever been.”

this – I wear it all
