This time the guards actually check the train and don’t just
stand around waiting to get punched out by AVALANCHE.3
Sneaking into the Mako reactor now involves a lot more fights
and cutscenes with the characters on your way to your target.5
In the original, having Cloud and co tiny on screen gives scale to
the reactor. In Remake, everything towers over you.6
Rooms that were empty in the original game now feature fights,
though random encounters are completely gone.

The elevator ride is now more of a straight cutscene, and cuts
away to President Shinra and Heidegger watching on CCTV.4
There are many nods to the original game in
Remake, such as here where we see the Mako
reactor in front of Cloud from a low angle.1
The once-fantastic PS1 opening movie now looks dated. The
