Great news if you like to sleep in: Arriving at
a flea market in the last three hours of its daily
run can save you anywhere from 25% to 50%,
explains Chris Robinson, manager of the Kane
Count y Flea Market in St. Charles, Illinois.
“Dealers bring in a lot of merchandise to sell,
and they don’t want to have to load it a ll back
up in the truck at the end of the day. So they’d
rather slash their prices to get you to buy those
items than bring unsold inventory back home.”
Tip: You’ll get the best discounts on the largest
and heaviest items—such as headboards and
dressers —since they’re more difficult to move.
Anytime you plan to buy more than one item, ask
the vendor if you can “bundle”—which means
getting one item at a lower price or for free, says
Hook s. “For example, if I want to buy three items,
I’ll tell the seller that two of the items are priced
a little high, but I’ll pay full price for them if I
can get the third lower-priced item at no charge.”
While how much you save varies based on what
you bundle, you can generally expect to trim off
about 10%! Hooks’ tip: Ask if there’s a discount
for paying cash. “Credit card companies charge
vendors a fee for every transaction, so some will be
happy to lower the price of an item to sidestep it.”
The start of flea market season is prime time for
snapping up deals! “That’s because it may still be
a little chilly or wet, so vendors’ prices tend to
be lower since they want to entice you to come out
and shop,” says Heather Hooks, host of the Hooked
on Pickin’ YouTube channel. Another bonus:
Right now, there are far more bargains to grab
since vendors spent all winter collecting new mer-
chandise and have a larger, more diverse inventory
than later in the season. To find flea markets near
you, visit FleaMarketZone.com, look in the yel-
low pages under “flea markets” or call your state’s

4 easy ways to score BIG
deals at flea markets!
April signals the opening of outdoor markets in most states, which means
nabbing great bargains! But you can save even more with these simple tactics...
Most flea market visitors start their shopping trip
at booths right by the entrance and at those lining
the outer perimeter. However, you’ll save the most
cash when you start your shopping trip in the
middle of the market, reveals DIY whiz Amanda
Hendrix of LoveAndRenovations.com. “These
vendors don’t see nearly as much foot traffic
throughout the day. Because of that, they’re often
a lot more interested in offering you a bargain.”
For example, the prices of similar items being sold
at an outer booth could be lower at a vendor who’s
in the middle. “A nd you’re likely to have better
luck when simply asking for a lower price!”
