Warriors of Anatolia. A Concise History of the Hittites - Trevor Bryce

(Marcin) #1

All temples were made of sundried mudbrick on timber frames.
Their walls would have been coated in a mud plaster, both inside
and out, and in at least some temples the interior walls would have
had painted decoration. Apart from the Temple of the Storm God,
the temples ranged in size from around 400 to 1,500 sq. m. All of
them featured an open courtyard which provided access to a
portico and then via a series of anterooms to the innermost shrine.
