HK Audio switches
distribution to Polar
[UK] German manufacturer Music & Sales
PE has signed an exclusive contract with
UK firm Polar to distribute its HK Audio and
Hughes & Kettner brands in the UK and the
Republic of Ireland from April 2020. Polar’s
Tim Riley comments: “Polar is set up in
a way that ideally serves all the market
areas relevant to HK Audio and Hughes &
Kettner, so this agreement seemed a perfect
fit for us from the offset.”

BTS launches online
health diagnostics tests

[USA] Entertainment technology charity
Behind the Scenes (BTS) has introduced
online health screening tests for industry
professionals. The interactive tests, which
can be used anonymously, allow people to
self-identify symptoms related to various
mental and physical health issues, including
anxiety, substance use and eating disorders.
Separate questionnaires - called screenings


  • can be filled in if one needs to address
    a specific issue, or ‘wide-range’ screening
    can be completed to examine a larger set of
    symptoms. On completion, the web tool
    provides comprehensive explanations of the
    examined moods and behaviours and offers
    informational materials and resources.

Biamp switches UK
distribution model
[UK] Pro AV solutions manufacturer Biamp
is switching to a dealer-direct model in the
UK and Ireland to strengthen its sales,
support, and product distribution in the
region. In addition to some direct accounts,
Biamp will be working with Midwich,
Leisuretec, and Professional Audio in
Northern Ireland, all served by Biamp’s
sales and support staff.
“With the UK being one of the biggest
and most important markets in Europe, we
are confident that our decision to go direct
will allow us to serve our partners more
effectively,” comments Kris Vermuyten,
general manager, Biamp Europe.

DWR promotes positivity and training for SA


[South Africa] DWR Distribution has
urged its clients and industry friends to
remain positive during the COVID-
pandemic. “It is important to remember that
this is temporary, and we are not alone as
every industry, sector and market will be
under pressure due to the knock-on effects
of the pandemic and our world
governments are mobilising plans to
mitigate these effects - South Africa
included,” the company says in a statement.
“What sets the events industry apart is that
we are resilient, we are not afraid of hard
work and most importantly, we look after
each other... The whole country is going to
need a really great party when this is all
over, and we will be ready and waiting to
turn on the lights, pump up the volume and

Responding to the ongoing crisis, the
company has ramped up its training
programmes to allow technicians out of
work to sharpen their skills. Upcoming
workshops include:


  • Vectorworks Spotlight training in Cape
    Town (15 -17 April) and Durban (20 - 22
    May); delegates are requested to supply
    Vectorworks Spotlight installed on a PC or
    Mac, plus a screen, keyboard and mouse.
    The cost is R2,100.

  • Hands-on training and theory of DiGiCo S
    and SD Series digital mixing consoles in
    Cape Town (28 April) and Durban (
    May). Delegates must provide a laptop or
    PC with an Offline Editor pre-installed.
    The cost is R700.

  • Networking and Lighting Protocols
    workshop on 1-2 July in Johannesburg.
