84 DO IT YOURSELF Summer 2020

9 An important part of
Jodi’s DIY education
has been learning to
leave well enough
alone. Case in point:
the metal lockers she
found for a steal on
Craigslist. She left the
unit as-is (rust and
all). 10 A milled piece
of wood hangs on
the side of the locker
unit as a measuring
stick to track the
kids’ growth (and to
hide a few holes!).

7 The room’s
numerous wood
tones—both
the midcentury
furnishings and found
decor—were inspired
by the Mockabee
children’s love of
the outdoors and
the treasures they
bring home from
their nature walks.

8 Jodi had a local
vendor make the
faux-suede sofa. “It
ended up being a lot
less expensive than
buying retail. And
it perfectly fi ts the
space,” she says.
