EditorMelaniesays:Weagree– purchasing single-use plastic is not
ideal.Wewouldalwaysrecommendbuying larger quantities of grains
andcookingathomewherepossible, and take this as understood within
eachrecipemethod. However, wethink it’s important to include healthy
optionsforthosewholackconfidence in the kitchen, are adapting to
a newdietorfindthemselveseatingaround a busy schedule. We hope
peoplewillmakeanefforttoditchtheplastic whenever they can.

SWEETENER
SUBSTITUTE
I would like to make the
flourless chocolate cake from
the November issue, but I’m
having trouble finding Natvia
sweetener locally. What
other sweeteners would you
recommend as a substitute?
CAROL, VIA EMAIL

Recipe consultant Phil says:
Any other granulated
sweetener that resembles
sugar should work. Total
Sweet xylitol would be fine,
for example Just avoid those
that come in a powdery form.

POUCHESANDTHEPLANET
I haverecentlyre-subscribedtoHFGbecause I enjoy discovering
andreadingaboutdifferenthealthtopics/recipes/fitness and
environmentalissuesregardingfoodin general. However, last month
I wasverydisappointedtoseethatthe recipes included ‘pouches’ of
readytoheatriceandgrains.Surelywe should be encouraging people
tobuylargerquantitiesoftheseingredients to reduce the purchase
ofsingle-useplastic?Plus,quinoaand rice aren’t exactly difficult or
time-consumingtocook.DAWN,VIAEMAIL
