Pier Paolo viazzo is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Turin,
Italy. Formerly a research associate of the Cambridge Group for the History of
Population, he has specialized in the historical and anthropological study of marriage
patterns and household structures in Alpine and Mediterranean Europe.
